Best-Selling Author to Visit Okemos Elementary Schools

The Okemos Education Foundation (OEF) and Summit Community Bank are pleased to co-sponsor the 2011 Okemos Public School’s Author Visit. This year’s visit features best-selling author Shelley Gill who will visit Okemos elementary schools March 22 - 24.

Gill, who lives in Homer, Alaska, has written 25 children’s books on Alaska and the Pacific Northwest that have sold more than a million copies. Her first book, Kiana’s Iditarod, was about her experiences as one of the first women to compete in the 1,100 mile Iditarod sled dog race. Gill inspires and excites students to read and write by emphasizing nature, animals and adventures from her life.

Okemos students have been meeting and talking with authors and illustrators for years, thanks to the OEF. This marks the third year that the OEF has partnered with Summit Community Bank to sponsor the author visit.

“The Okemos Education Foundation’s strength and vision is a perfect example of what makes Okemos such an innovative and enticing place to live, work, and raise a family, ” said Summit Community Bank Assistant Vice President Adam Goss. “As a community banker and lifelong resident of Okemos, I am proud of Summit Community Bank’s commitment to the OEF and the families and businesses that make our community great.” Summit Community Bank is a full service financial institution with offices in East Lansing and Okemos.
