Executive Officers

It was the beginning of our decade, when local business leaders formed Summit Community Bank. Today, Summit has successfully created a fresh banking presence in the Greater Lansing Area with the customer placed strategically at the center.

Summit Community Bank began operations in 2003 from a concept so basic – community banking. The notion clicked immediately, rekindling visions of the handshake, a relationship of trust based on friendship, and a face-to-face commitment with the strong bonds that community engenders.

Summit Community Bank has surpassed every milestone set by its founders, built upon an unremarkable but welcome model – a solid, strong community bank, fully accountable to its customers. The founding officers, with combined experience of more than 150 years, are friends and neighbors with deep roots and commitments in the Greater Lansing Area. In fact, it’s likely you know at least one of them personally.

John Abbott

John Abbott, Summit’s President and Chief Executive Officer, holds a bachelor’s degree in Finanace and master’s degree in Accounting from Western Michigan University. His journey to Summit began as a CPA with a national accounting firm, and subsequent leadership and management positions have provided broad insights into every phase of banking. Prior to leading Summit’s team, John served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Community First Bank.

Jack Nimphie

Jack Nimphie, Summit’s Senior Vice President and Chief Operations Officer, is a graduate of Central Michigan University. A lifelong resident of the East Lansing/Okemos area, Jack has experience in all phases of banking. Prior to Summit, Jack served as Senior Vice President and Director of Operations of Community First Bank. Jack continues to lead Summit in all technological advancements, and continues to stress “high touch” customer service in the Bank’s “high tech” environment.

Chris Nugent

Chris Nugent, Summit’s Senior Vice President and Chief Lending Officer, started his banking career in 1990 and quickly moved through the ranks at two large banking organizations, most recently as Vice President of commercial loans with Bank One. Throughout his career Chris has built trusting relationships with neighbors and friends in the community. Chris combines a financial mindset with the creative vision that gives customers a clear look at how their business and household goals can happen.

Wayne Weaver

Wayne Weaver, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, graduated from Notre Dame and has lived in the Lansing area for three decades. Wayne launched his career in 1975 with Community First Bank in Lansing. Within ten years he was named Senior Vice President of corporate planning and soon moved through nearly every facet of bank operations. Most recently, he served as Director of Finance and Treasurer of CFSB Bancorp. Inc.
